My Lovely Sam-Soon

Hey Guys! Sukiyaki Sam here.. and.. well I do believe this is my first official review/blog on the new site. Yeah yeah, I know I’m a lazy bum! But to start things off I wanted to do a review on a Korean drama that I just got done watching called My Lovely Sam-Soon or also known as My Name is Kim Sam-Soon. It previewed in 2005 with really high ratings, and I can definitely see why. I watched it on Dramafever.com (a great site for korean dramas). There are only 16 episodes, so it’s pretty short as far as kdramas are concerned, but I’m glad it didn’t drag on forever because even the best of stories can get pretty redundant sometimes.
The main plot was about Kim Sam-Soon, a single 30 year old patissier (pastry chef) who is “overweight” (yeah right) and hates her old fashioned name. The show starts off showing her boyfriend of three years cheating on her and the ending of their relationship. Through a couple turn of events she meets Sam-Shik , a pretty ridiculously attractive 27 year old millionaire, and begins to work for him at his newly opened restaurant. Sam-Shiks mom begins to pressure him into finding a wife so him and Sam-Soon draw up a dating contract to get her off his back. Soooo what’s the plot you ask? they get together right from the beginning.. thats not very eventful, right? Wrong. They aren’t really dating, nor do they even like each other. For Sam-Soon the benefit of this contract dating is she gets 50,000 dollars out of it, money that she will use to save her families house. As far as Sam-Shik goes, you can already see the benefits for him.. no one wants their mom setting them up on blind dates a million times a week. To make a long story short the show revolves around them pretending to date, there is a lot of drama considering Sam-Shik’s ex-girlfriend shows back up and tries to get her man back. And all the while Sam-Soons cheating scum bag ex is still trying to win her heart and a one way ticket into her pants even after being engaged to another lady.
Overall I really liked My Lovely Sam-Soon, it was a nice change from all the high school host club romantic comedy dramas (I’m not saying I don’t like those.. because I really reallllllly do). I think the fact that the characters being older had a lot to do with why I liked it so much. I would give this drama a 4 out of 5 rating, it was a great heartwarming story but the last episode was pretty weak and kind of predictable. Well I think that pretty much wraps it up! If anyone has any suggestions of dramas (korean, japanese, chinese, etc..) just drop me and email at weeaboobies@gmail.com and I would be more than happy to watch it and post a review :) Until next time!
